GUEST BLOGGER: FOR REAL THIS TIME

Lehigh alum 'LUHoops00' has become a FOPLB (friend of Patriot League Blog) by offering the below report from the LU/Army game. Others are welcome to follow his lead and drop me a line (mattb@patriotleaguehoops.com) if you are interested in helping me out while I am busy fighting the man. Big thanks to him for being our inaugural guest blogger. The only part that I disagree with is the anti-Bill Packer rhetoric-- I love that guy!

Pre-Game Lehigh vs. Army

Lehigh (8-1) vs. Army (1-9)

Lehigh looks to remain undefeated versus the Cadets under Taylor

Last time out: Lehigh 63 Army 60, Knight 28 points

Christl seats 5,000, but the snow storm has kept a good 4,000 locals at home

Army has their very own replica Houston Astros Killer B’s starting lineup with Brown, Bell, and Bates

1st Half

We are underway from West Point

Down 4-0, Army is not lining up any of their players on the FT line with Corban Bates shooting a pair, they’re working on their fast break defense.

Bates misses both…it could be a long afternoon for the cadets

Olivero step back jumper for two, silky, silky smooth with the step back fade

Brown is cadets 1st option on offense and drills a baseline jumper

Brown getting touches every possession

Knight enters at the 16:48 mark

Why he is still coming off the bench I have no idea.

Quick Knight update for www.crossports.com members who love to talk about his academic background. He got a 3.11 gpa in fall semester…the time off from hoops was time well spent!

Brown misses two jumpers and Bell is struggling early

8-4 Engineers at under 16 tv time out

Knight with two quick 3-ball bombs

Bell missing early

Brown needs to shoot 35 times for this team to have a chance

Its getting ugly early, the locals are restless.

Bear Mountain is offering 2 for 1 ski passes with your Army Cadets game ticket

18-8 Engineers under 8

The stones are performing at half time and I thought army basketball was as bad as it gets

Bell keeps shooting…and missing…and shooting and missing

White with a put back deuce

Its 22-10, Army still not lining up for rebounds on their own FT’s, and I am still perplexed

Quick question – do you think Bobby Knight had the Coach K led Army team not lining up for rebounds on FT’s?

White buries a jumper for LU

Army has 13 points at the half, thirteen!

33-13 at the half, and I have no idea what Jim Crews half time message will be

Half Time – Part Uno

Ok, I lied, the Stones was a joke, but dodgeball is for real

Company A4 vs. C2, winner goes to Cadets Final Four.

Nantz and Packer just broke down the road to the Final Four for A4, and it goes through C2

Seth Davis likes C2, and I am just rooting for someone to get hit in the face

2,000 locals just showed up, its A4 vs. C2 baby!

Will Smith Men In Black song is playing

Vince Vaughn or a replica Vaughn from his swinger days is playing for one of the teams, and the kid can throw darts

I have no idea which team is which, but one team has an average height/weight of 5’8, 145…small, but shifty, with lots of heart

The small guys win, I think, they were up 5 guys to 1, and blew it, it might have ended in a tie, but they might have won, its mass confusion in West Point

Billy Packer can’t remember if his dad played at wake forest and he coached at Lehigh or vice versa

If you do not like Billy Packer, sign the petition and join the club, its free! http://www.ipetitions.com/campaigns/Billy_Packer/

Half Time Show – Part Deuce

4th Grade CYO Ball 6 minute winner take all cage match, sans the cage

Winner takes on A4 in dodgeball, kidding!

Number 12 in blue has game, he can go left, he can go right, and he is automatic from 17 and in

Army should be recruiting him….for next season. He’s 8 years old and he could help Brown out next year, the kid is special

2nd Half

White not partaking in warm-ups, if I wasn’t a rookie blogger I’d have reported that he took a big time charge towards end of 1st half and looked banged up

2nd half begins and white is not in the starting lineup

Anderson with back to back lay-ups

Lead growing and growing

Fischman with one handed “send it in Jerome” type jam from the 3 point line(need to add excitement here)…but it was emphatic none the less

Lehigh pounding it inside to the big fellas early and often

Browth hanging deuce, he might lead the league in scoring in the next year or two, but he’ll need more of a supporting cast

Anderson inside again for a deuce, 8 quick inside points for Lehigh

White hasn’t entered the game and won’t by the looks of things

TV Time outs are getting exciting - we just had an Army softball player throw rubber army mini basketballs at the crowd at about 65 mph

Mgebroff finally gets in the game with about 13 minutes left in the 2nd half of a blowout.

Did I mention mgebroff is two philly cheesesteaks away from 3-bills? Now you know why he doesn’t play anymore, so good, so talented, so out of shape

Which leads me to this - How the heck is he still out of shape. Midnight madness was what, 4 months ago, does this guy practice with the team or just eat papa johns on the sidelines

First offensive possession, mgebroff drops a deuce ft line extended, it hurts to watch

TV Time outs are getting better

NY State Lottery Contest

New York State Lotto Mascot dressed as a lottery ball

Mascot has Lotto tickets attached to him and two fans have to grab as many lotto tickets as they can in one minute, with the catch being that the mascot gets to run around to make it difficult.

The mascot is doing worse then the cadets basketball team, where is Mr. met when you need him, heck, I’ll take Mrs. Met on a snowy saturday

Knight drops a corner 3

Brown drops a 3-ball

LU has emptied the bench, everyone has played

Its 57-28 under 8 tv time out

Bell can’t throw it in the ocean from the titanic

Moonshower, who the announcer might have called Moonshine, is dropping bombs in mop up duty

It is over, finally, I can go ski at Bear Mountain now, thank god

Recap

The final score, drumroll, 69-44

Bell was 1 for 12, for 2 points

Brown shot 5 for 11, had 14 points, and played pretty well on his own out there

Knight went 4 for 5 from 3, finished with 16 points

Quiet day for Jose, played 25 minutes in the blowout, and had 9 points

Engineers had 7 players with 6 or more points, it was that kind of game

Navy shot 30% for the game

Lehigh moves to 9-1 in P-League

Army still in basement at 1-10

This is LUHoops00….signing off.

WE WERE ON A BREAK

As you may have noticed, your faithful PL blogger has been absent for some time. There are powerful forces that wish to silence the important message I deliver, and I must take a voyage to unknown territories to battle them. Yes, my life is much like a Bruce Lee film. If you are interested in guest blogging in the interim (pay is non-existent, but the fame you realize from being associated with the first Patriot League blog in history is invaluable), drop me a line at mattb AT patriotleaguehoops.com.

I will return, but I'm not sure when. In the meantime, you know where to go for what's up.

PS. If Jordan Nichols doesn't get Rookie of the Year, no one has been paying attention.

Keep up to date on the latest from the Last (sort of) Amateurs - email me at mattb at patriotleaguehoops.com You can also post your thoughts here or below any of the specific postings.
