Basketball star Knight gets
scholarship to Colgate
BERKELEY
Simon Knight, a 6-foot-8 center for the St. Mary's High basketball team, signed a letter-of-intent with Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y.
Knight averaged 18.2 points and 13 rebounds per game while leading the Panthers to their third straight Bay Shore Athletic League championship.
'Simon Knight will bring a big body and toughness to the program,' Colgate head coach Emmett Davis said.
'His willingness to rebound and defend will fit in well with our overall philosophy. His double-double average for scoring and rebounding will be welcomed.'
Knight was pivotal in the Panthers' upset win over top seed Salesian in the semifinals of the BSAL playoffs, scoring 21 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, not to mention hitting the game-winning free throw with less than 10 seconds left.
Knight was awarded second team all-BSAL honors in his senior season and was named MVP of the Modesto Christian Tournament.
He will join a Raiders team that last season finished second in the Patriot League.
One former Raiders center who made it big is the Warriors' Adonal Foyle, who played at Colgate from 1994-97.

I hope they didn't tell his parents he's on scholarship.. In addition to the screwed up headline, nice legwork by the reporter to quote Coach Davis WORD FOR WORD from the press release.
