Sorry for the lack of updates over the last few days, folks. Believe it or not, there's not a lot of college basketball news in July. But here's the link to the league release about who's smarter than everyone else.

NAVY (1)

A few things of note here: First, Bucknell is clearly either a really easy school, or they have really smart kids. I'm voting that the kids are smart. So congrats to them, having their two best players do so well says a lot about the way the program is run. Then again, I'd probably have worked harder in college if I had Flannery looking over my shoulder. Yikes.

Next, Navy and HC...what happened? Scott Long at least gives Navy a starter rep, but Kevin "sometimes I play in practice" Hyland is the only HC representative? No offense, HC folks, (and I know someone's going to get pissed anyway) but only having one player on the honor roll makes your arguments about how important academic integrity in the league is seem less viable. No reasonable person will see the lack of HC players on here and suddenly think they're "thugs" or "misfits" or whatever, just because their GPAs are lower, but similar arguments have been levied at AU. (Please, don't go crazy about this. I'm tired of talking about JC players.)

AU didn't have _anyone_ on last year's honor roll though, so worse has been seen. My guess is that HC's drought will just be a one year thing, considering they have recruits coming in that are well hyped academically.

AU and Army do a good job of having players BARELY make the list. 3.2 is the minimum to get on it. I'm baffled at how Raimondas Petrauskas made the list. The guy doesn't speak English! What does it say about my GPA while I was at AU if someone who DOESNT KNOW WHAT PROFESSORS ARE SAYING can get on the honor roll?? Either he's really really really smart and only took math classes, or there was a lot of tutoring going on. Also of note is that I think Craig Weinstein has more points on his GPA than he did in the entire 2003 season on the court. As AUScott has noted, there are about 100 kids on campus that should walk on before this guy (Jeff Jones' 10 year old son, for example)-- he must have the best attitude ever to be on that squad.

Lastly, does anyone else think it's kind of weird that the league is releasing the GPAs of these kids? It just seems kind of slimy, I can't put my finger on why. Let me know what you think.

More news as it develops, let me know what you think about the upcoming league play or if you have any news...
